HIGH-POWERED - Nick Peace's Production Notes

I put this one on the CD for me. Basically made a beat with the scene from the cover artwork in mind. The whole motion of the chase between the Rabbit and the Owl. This is the first beat I made when I got back from my last trip to Italy. There's a lot in this beat I put in there that had to do with some personal shit about my trip mixed way in the background. The words that narrate the front cover scene are scratched in from various records on wax. Justin Weis from Trakworx laid the guitar solo. Once again this one is on there for me but I know some of you are gonna feel it.

This beat was made by Jusluv up in Grass Valley. It all started out from listening to the beat and coming up with the lyrics for the hook. After Mike laid his vocals I brought San Quinn in to do the Raps with Willie Hen spittin flavor on the middle verse and hooks. With some breaks and drum filters in the mixdown at Trakworx this became my choice to get the CD Crackin and get everyone in the mood to smoke.

After everyone gets 10 X's High from the San Quinn track Paranoia sets in. Classic flows from Keak Da Sneak. Yes, he used some recycled shit in there but it really works. I'm really not into rappers who always recycle their raps but keak sneaked them in with a lot of class on this one. A Real tight new kind of knocker Nick Peace style. Keak Solo Joint to smoke with. It's the perfect Murda set up for Andre Nicky's track coming next.

Even though I grew up listening to Run DMC to me Andre is the King of Rap -"there is none higher" Yes, I'm honored to say this is another Nickatina gem in the Nickpeace crown. Yes, Sun Duck Kim pt. 2 for those who know in a way but on a way different style track. This is the first track my homie Aryeh plays on. He's the one who played the Harp on "The Bottle" on CR3. This time he lets loose on the Cittern, an old school instrument that's like a mandolin or guitar. Andre flows over this simple beat with style as he accompanies the traditional folk song played by Aryeh Like a killer whale gliding through icy water.

This track with Mac Dre is hard to write about. This was the first beat I did for this album back when I was going to name it "Ten Ladders". As soon as I made the beat I wanted Mac Dre to rap on it. When he came to the studio I played about 12 beats to choose from and wanted him to pick this particular one. I'm happy to say he picked this one and quickly went to work on lyrics off the "Toy's, Toy's for Girls and Boy's" hook I had in there. Bay Raps about cars and guns over a Slumpin' Crazy Beat. After he laid the verses I added the slump and snare. I'm really missing Mac Dre. Thanks Kilo for the hook up with Dre and later Mac Mall. If I had the chance to do a concept album with Mac Dre it would have sounded like this.

This is the hardest track on the CD. Killa Kease, Cellski and Baldhead Rick speak on all the killings going on around the Bay Area (San Francisco mainly). Who Can I Trust? The beat pounds down the block with phat drums and melodic sounds from the Cittern & overtone flute played by Aryeh. A real Classic. I wish Cougnut was still with us and rapping on this one. Mike Marshall adds subliminal flavor to this one as 3 MC's bust Raps.

I needed some heat from Equipto for this album. I really needed a great Queezy track after using "Mottavation" on the "K.I.M." CD which was originally slotted to be on the Nickpeace CD. The beat was created by First Degree the D.E. and turned out to be the perfect combo for Quipto to flow on. Hella verses on this one and every one of them paints a picasso picture with E's Raps. Again a lot of work with drum filters and mixing at Trakworx. Tight Equipto solo bolo.

I always wanted Brotha Lynch Hung on one of my albums and all praise goes to D.E. for hooking this one up. From the Beat to the Raps to the hook ups. Its all D.E. P-folks and Brotha Lynch both have tight verses that remind me of the Million Dollar Dream "High-Powered" Double Album (Chapter 2 in the Million Dollar Dream series). The instrumental kicks for a minute at the end to thank D.E. for making this one happen. Peace to Art B & Lynch.

This is a Nickpeace beat inspired by a picture Ben Hopkins made for the inside artwork. Its kinda about the MillionDollarDream.com machine. So look at the picture from the artwork when you bump this.

Smoov-E breaks all the rules on this one. Classic Smoov-E shit right here. Made the music alittle different with the help of Justin Weis on Guitar. Starts off as a Nickpeace track then blends into a Smoov-E beat and comes back in with the original beat.
One of my favorite tracks on the CD.

Peep these 32 bars from Jackpot. This is really the end part to the Smoov-E track but me and Justin Weis changed the beat to bring out Jackpots classic Rap. Got some backwards guitars and slump in this one.

The Nocturnal Hustlers step up to the plate on this track produced by Nickpeace and Mike Marshall. KD and Savage C Rap back to back with the perfect flows. I love this track. Part of the beat to this is on the "K.I.M." CD but the way it came out on the "High-Powered" CD is 10 X's greater. Would like to have these Cats on more Million Dollar tracks. This was the 3rd song recorded for this project back in February 2004 or something.

Another personal favorite. Called Kilo to get Dubee on "High-Powered" but got Mac Mall to get down instead. Wow. This was the first time I met the Mac Mall. This is a true legend from the Bay! One of the last beats I made for this right after I got back from Italy. Almost everything else was finished way earlier in the year. Fast track where Mall winds his dope lyrics like a snake. Mike Marshall adds flavor at the end of the track. This track is tight!

Knockin original Nickpeace beat with tight flows and concept from Mr. Kee and Duke Shietsy. Wanted to end the CD with a classic. Aryeh Frankfurter plays the electric violin on this one. I'll call this one Violin Beat #4 0r #5 (I lost count) Mr. Kee always comes with good concepts and tight flows. This one has great backwards drums that we made over at Trakworx.

Just somthin' I did one Saturday afternoon locked down in the studio. Used a lot of Equipto & Mike Marshall scratches off the "K.I.M." wax from the song "The Set Off". A Nickpeace instrumental.
